Are you looking for a new barber you can bond with? If so, look no further than these renowned Garden State businesses. They may differ in size and specialties, but they all rank among the best barber shops in NJ. They’re ideal places for a haircut, a shave and, yes, a good time.

1. Stag House

Single guys must look their best when they’re swimming in the dating pool. Fortunately, the people who work at Glen Rock’s Stag House are terrific at bringing out a bachelors’ inner stylishness. Many of the employees are women, and they bring feminine insight to trimming and grooming.

Christine Modica and Rachel Israel opened Stag House in 2016, and their salon for women is adjacent to this shop. Especially impressive, Stag House makes its own shaving cream and offers customers alcoholic drinks. Men’s cuts cost about $30 and include a shave.

2. Iconic Barber Shop & Shave Parlor

The gifted cosmetologist, Casey Terramoccia, opened Iconic Barber Shop in Glen Rock in 2014, a couple of years after he graduated from college. Despite its newness, stepping into Iconic is like stepping back in time. The wooden floors and chairs that look like collectors’ items call to mind a simpler era of cutting hair. Despite its newness, stepping into Iconic is like stepping back in time. The wooden floors and chairs that look like collectors’ items call to mind a simpler era of cutting hair.

However, the services at Iconic aren’t stuck in the past. Its website boasts “progressive urban styles” in addition to more conservative cuts. Due to this shop’s popularity, it’s wise to call ahead before you go.

As with Stag House, expect a haircut and shave to cost you around $30.

Boys, adolescents and men have been going to Glen Rock’s Little Joe & John’s since 1964. Today, its customers can watch flat-screen TVs, and kids can get a haircut in a chair that looks like a police car. This gleaming shop has a retro 1950s elegance to it, and the value is outstanding; cuts start at $20. It’s also open on Sundays, which works well with many people’s schedules.

4. Virile Barber Shop

You can spend up to $50 on a haircut at Virile Barber Shop, but it’ll be worth it. Each cut there is highly personalized, and expert barbers will take your face’s shape into account as they craft an ideal look for you.

There are two Virile locations; one in Waldwick and one in Jersey City. The latter opened in 2014. At each locale, you can have a drink and you should take the time to admire the antiques, such as the cash registers, that are peppered throughout the shop.

5. Vincent’s Barber Shop

For decades, Vincent’s Barber Shop in East Rutherford has been one of the best barber shops in NJ. How old-fashioned is it? It doesn’t have a website or an official Facebook page. It’s also cash-only. It’s been around since 1905, and it’s still located in a somewhat nondescript brick building. Happily, the low prices and the careful attention to detail are pretty old-fashioned, too.

Popularly referred to as “CGQ,” Chateau Gentleman’s Quarters is located in Franklin Lakes, in the same complex as Chateau Salon. It opened in 2012. As with other shops on this list, many of its interior details feel like they come from another era, chief among them the elegant lighting fixtures.

Men’s haircuts cost $25 and up. Note that CGQ offers the occasional cocktail, and it sells an array of high-quality grooming, coloring and facial products.

At MarkDaniel, each barber has his or her own particular strengths. For instance, one might be a wizard of beards, while another’s a master of undercuts. Review the website before you book to confirm which stylist you should make your appointment with.

MarkDaniel Barber Shop features a bright and cozy atmosphere, and you can always sit back and immerse yourself in a pleasant conversation there. Haircuts are $35, and this business is open every day of the week.

Owned by Joshua and Emmanuel Morales, Morali Barber House in Midland Park has been responsible for, by its own count, 35,000 haircuts so far. It’s an inexpensive shop, and its walls are adorned with photographs of historic celebrity hairstyles, like the Beatles’ classic cuts.

The Morales brothers and their staff want to do more than cut hair. As Josh explains it, he views himself as an “image consultant” who can help men get ready for important life events like job interviews.

10. Mr. Freshcut

A post shared by Family • Freshcut • Culture (@mr.freshcut) on Feb 11, 2017 at 8:36am PST

In Bogota, Mr. Freshcut celebrates the artistic process. Modern art adorns its walls, and the barbers think of themselves as artists that fashion original and attractive cuts for each client. They take their time and truly care about how customers perceive the results. Mr. Freshcut provides good value, and it’s a cool environment to hang out.

A talented barber is a special person. If you’ve been going to a certain establishment long enough, your barber might remember which cuts you prefer, which styling products you use and which sports teams you follow. A haircut can also be a refreshing pause during a hectic day. When you leave one of the best barber shops in NJ, you will feel as great as your hair looks.
