With winter out of the way, the countdown for summer has finally begun, meaning one thing – Summer holiday! While most people have already booked their trips away, not many have even thought about what they are going to pack. Choosing what to take with you is a nightmare, so here at Mainline we’ve put together a guide of what needs to be in your suitcase.
T-shirt – White
A white tee has a tradition of being the focal point of summer attire, but if not chosen correctly then your top can turn your sunny outfit into a cloudy one, so our advice is to make sure the pattern or logo is relatively simple giving you more options for the rest of your outfit. The material is an essential choice and should be kept 100% cotton or silk in order to keep sweat patches at bay.

Tip: Although a white tee is the ultimate, make sure your case is crammed with different colours for variety
Shorts – Light wash denim
The suns out which means it’s time for your calves to reap the vitamin D it has been deprived of for most of the year. Now you’ve got your white tee, the options for shorts are bottomless, but for us the signature pair have to be light-wash denim.
When you imagine a guy walking past you on holiday in denim shorts you picture a man of class. Now it is easy to pick out a pair of shorts, but finding the right type of comfort can be a tricky one. A top that attracts heat is a problem and shorts an even bigger one, so only go for ones that are high in cotton!
One to buy: LEVIS 511 SLIM FIT DENIM SHORTS BLUE
Tip – Take a few pairs with you but buy darker, as this is the lightest you should go.
Trainers – White
Just like the tee, white is definitely the perfect trainer colour when strolling about in the heat. Even though the colour seems to detract the heat away from your feet, our advice is still to pick a lighter weight pair of trainers. If you go too light you can lose the overall comfort, therefore it’s essential to get a pair that will be a dream to wear. Remember, you’re on holiday to relax and you’re toes deserve the same treatment!
One to buy – NIKE CLASSIC CORTEZ TRAINERS WHITE
Tip – Spice it up a little and get another pair with a bit more colour.
Vest – Navy
It simply wouldn’t be a summer holiday without a vest. Now is the opportunity to showcase your hard work in the gym and what better way to do it then in a cool navy sleeveless. The colour doesn’t bake you like you would in black and gives you more of an appeal to a standard white.
It’s been said before and it needs saying again, even though a vest has no sleeves, the material must be breathable otherwise your back is in for a wet ride. A bonus of the vest is that it can be used both as daywear or in the night, which is why we are recommending Lacoste for that added touch of class.
One to buy – LACOSTE LIVE POCKET VEST T SHIRT NAVY
Tip – Vests don’t take up much room in your case so pack a few – you’ll be glad you did.
Swim Shorts – Red
It’s time to be loud and proud, you’re in the sun after all! A bright red pair of swim shorts are the perfect choice and will have everyone’s eyes on the beach staring, even if you haven’t spent the winter working out.

Tip – Aim to keep your shorts high – the time of swimwear past the knee is gone.
Shades – Gold
Seeing as the UK isn’t the sunniest place, we wouldn’t be surprised if you don’t own a pair of sunnies, but it would be foolish not to take a pair of shades with you on your travels. Not only do they keep the glare out of your eyes, they also add style and an edge to your whole outfit. There are many types about, but the classiest are undoubtedly the aviators. Wear these with a supreme outfit and expect attention.
One to buy – RAY BAN 3025 AVIATOR SUNGLASSES GOLD
Tip – Contrary to the ‘smoky gaze’ idea, squinting isn’t sexy so buy a pair of sunglasses asap!
Underwear – Plain
You may be in love with your current comfortable underwear but don’t be that guy who packs old tattered boxers. Treat yourself, but keep it light, plain and comfortable.
One to buy – TOMMY HILFIGER UNDERWEAR 3 PACK TRUNKS NAVY & ADIDAS ORIGINALS THREE PACK TREFOIL SOCKS WHITE
Cap – Blue
One for the relaxed days or the days where you are exposed to a bit more sun. As much as you love the sun there will be times when you can do without it and that’s where the cap comes into play. Get a piece of headwear that is light and comfy, so your head stays cool throughout the hottest of days.
One to buy – HUGO BOSS GREEN CAP 1 BLUE
Tip – Even if you don’t normally wear caps, get one. If you’re unlucky enough to get heat stroke then you’ll be wishing you had!
Others:
- Beach Towel
- Sun lotion & after sun
- Lip care, preferably with SPF as burnt lips aren’t fun
- A pair of jeans to be on the safe side!
We’ve covered a lot in regards to holiday essentials, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to go for them. Luckily for you Mainline has a tonne of clothing and accessories that will give your suitcase what it needs to ensure your summer holiday is a success!
