A surprising statement, yet one with truth behind it… Having asked a handful of men in the office on their attitudes towards shorts, the general consensus stipulated that they’re for holidays and the rare few moments of hot British weather.
Find a well-made slim fitting pair of shorts that sits just above the knee, and you’ll be surprised at how many occasions you can wear them for; all you have to do from there is find ways to style them.
Let’s start with the obvious – the ultimate combo – shorts and a T-shirt. It’s a look men everywhere can depend on for any casual summer occasion, from beach trips abroad
to weekend ventures at home. When donning this classic look it is the ideal opportunity to experiment with colour. Choose crew necks in confident hues, woven from cotton or linen to keep you cool, and pair with neutral tones on your bottom half.
Dressed down Fridays permitted, you can also afford to show some leg in the office. Jacquard shorts and a well-made shirt complete with leather trainers at work is a rarity, but it can work when the moment is right.
Sporting events are another occasion when a good pair of shorts will fast become your saviour. “All shorts look great with a white shirt“, says James Williams, head of online trading; and we couldn’t agree more. Style tucked in for a polished finish and add a leather belt. Avoid cliché boat shoes and jumpers placed over the shoulders. Simplicity wins.
Other ways to style your shorts is with a Breton T-shirt or polo neck. Easy options to wear, they’re two great designs to have in your wardrobe, simply because they’ll go with almost anything.
